UP's New Columnist And Roving Reporter Goldierocks Brings You What's Hot Each Month

Readers of old and readers anew- I welcome to you to the monthly Goldierocks Column in UP Magazine.

Indeed, after an annual stint at the wonder that was Spill magazine, I enthusiastically join the ranks of "UP", ranting each moon circle on my choice of rekkids to spin behind the decks and the bands to be watching out for- as in those that’ll be making waves in your world in the imminent months(previous recommendations miles before the NME pack have included: Klaxons, Bloc Party, Larrikin Love, Mystery Jets, Gossip- you get the idea we’re on it), not to mention my various debauched adventures, secret party and gig tip offs and mini interviews with hot young talent.

Tickling under my chin this month has to be the electro smash-in-the-making that is ‘British Mode’ by Ozzy sensations Goose. The 80's keys, dirty thumpathon bass, and signature ‘neu-rave’ synth break. No, this isn’t another messy Hoxtonite electro singalong,- 'tis a "proper" piece of indie/dance tuneage and if you like what you hear then you should make it down to the infamous Buttoned Down Disco on Fri 16th February, where Goose will be playing a rather exclusive London show. Venue? Now that’d be telling, let alone breaking The Dollyrocker’s cardinal rule of spontaneous crowd control but do your research and it’s easy enough to work out. But warning- get there early, dress "bright" and be ready for a lengthy evening. Next on the rave-on list is the little unknown ‘Love Like Semtex’ (Metronomy Remix) by The Infadels. What a stonker! If you like Hot Chip, then Metronomy will floast your boat- all knee high socks, poppy chorus lines, off- beat cool as cola yelps and mash up keys. Download now. And for the electro trash icing the legendary Princess Superstar’s remix of CSS’s ‘Alala’. Dirty Mc dirty beats- just like Superstar: fierce, crude and ready for action. This is my club track to get and down and grubby to on Valentines eve*.

And parties? No dosh to be seen, too wet and windy to face the outside world? I head off to underground party capital Budapest to live it up with Ladytron but if you’re Blighty- bound then buck up your ideas and get yourself down one of The Noisettes shows all 'round the UK. Anticipated as one of the biggest bands of 2007- fresh from main European tour support to none other than Muse and debut album ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’ out 6th February. This is a band that’s worth spending your pennies on.

And if your Northern bound, absolutely the night to be heading to if you only have one outing this month is the Modular Records party in Sheffield’s rock’n’roll Mecca- The Plug. Erol Alkan on the decks, Digitalism live, and a support slot from my favourite band of the moment, The Whip. Sweet, Gang of Four inspired, vibrant disco pop at its best.

Next month we talk mini - labels and band egos.

‘Love-Heart’ kisses,

Sam Hall xx
